My friend who died two days ago drank himself to death. He hated his job and could afford to retire so he did. At first he just did nothing. Fine. He had earned that right. Then he kept doing nothing. Then he started drinking. He didn't stop. He had planned to start new hobbies and volunteer work. He was going to get a dog. He got a replacement cat. I love cats. Cats have loved me for more than just my tendency to feed them. But a cat won't get you out of the house three times a day.
Tommy stopped going out altogether. He stayed home and drank. He would not allow visitors. I have not seen him in a year. Now I never will. I've been saddened and angry with him for so long and now that will never stop. His partner has had to deal with all of this and will carry this burden forever. Never do this to anyone. Unimagineable.
