It will never actually be over. I never met my partner's dad but I was with my partner when he died. His mother could not admit that I was who I was so I was the help. I knew her for about a decade. She had to treat me nice because I "wasn't" an in-law. My partner set his best friend and I against each other so we wouldn't gang up on him.
