Trump shot himself in the foot with his latest lawsuit. By claiming harm to his financial interests he has opened himself up to broad financial discovery by the BBC. There will undoubtedly be some extra-legal excuse for this to not happen. This will however be complicated by the involvement of the BBC. The Beeb is an arm of the UK government. Trump is less popular than the UK government and no one over there wants to be seen as bowing to Trump lest we get PM Bin. The UK libel laws are far stricter than the US and the BBC lawyers are expert in them. Trump could very well run afoul of the laws he's threatened to have enforced. A countersuit by the BBC could wind up more embarrassing than the deposition would be. [Politico]
