Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Jul. 9

 Here are today's contestants:

- Anthony Kim, a warehouse supervisor from Whitestone, New York;

- Sarah Lynch, a tax examiner from Austin, Texas; and

- Caleb Groen, a law and policy student originally from Thousand Oaks, California. Caleb is a five-day champ with winnings of $103,200.

Jeopardy!

SLASH FICTION (HACK & STAB TOO) // GETTING A "D" IN ART // IT'S A NUMBER OF THINGS // HOMOPHONES // DRINK GLOBALLY // ACT VOCALLY

DD1 - $800 - HOMOPHONES - To compare, or an organism combining a fungus & an alga (Anthony lost $1,000.)

Scores at first break: Caleb $4,600, Sarah $600, Anthony -$1,800.

Scores entering DJ: Caleb $5,600, Sarah -$400, Anthony $800.

Double Jeopardy!

ALTERNATE HISTORY BOOKS // CITIES OF THE MIDDLE EAST // SCIENCE TALK // RANKS & TITLES // IT'LL ALL END WITH "AI" // WOMEN IN MUSIC

DD2 - $1,600 - ALTERNATE HISTORY BOOKS - In a novel by E.B. Lomax, this man who helped lead the Arab revolt against the Ottomans survives his motorcycle crash but with no memories (Celeb improved by $5,000 to $13,000.)

DD3 - $1,200 - RANKS & TITLES - These 2 titles that went largely out of use in 1917 & 1918 both derive from "Caesar" (Caleb added $9,000 up to $34,800.)

Victories don't come easier than this, as Caleb drew away in DJ after hitting both DDs and carried a massive lead into FJ at $39,600 vs. $5,600 for Anthony. Finishing in the red was Sarah at -$800.

Final Jeopardy!

ALLITERATIVE LITERATURE - This collection begins with a poem not by the credited author but by his rival Ben Jonson, commenting on an engraving

Both players were correct on FJ. Caleb went back to going big, adding $20,400 to win with $60,000 for a six-day total of $163,200.

Final scores: Caleb $60,000, Sarah -$800, Anthony $5,600.

Judging the producers: In HOMOPHONES, for the clue "hypocritical talk & is not competent", the on-screen graphic showed "CANT/KANT", but it should have been "CANT/CAN'T".

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is liken/lichen? DD2 - What is "Lawrence of Arabia"? DD3 - What are czar and kaiser? FJ - What is the First Folio?
