What's On Tonight (Friday): No One Played by Javier Bardem Could Be an Evil Man

 

Cape Fear

Today's Top Pick is the series remake of the film remake of Cape Fear starring Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson and Javier Bardem.  I assume anyone tuning in will mostly be tuning in for Bardem cutting loose as a man sent to prison looking for revenge on the family of his former defense lawyer.  Not sure how this is going to work stretched out over multiple episodes, but it's great cast and Bardem looks like he's having a blast.

Runner up goes to the streaming premiere of the BDSM romantic comedy, Pillion.  The film stars Alexander Skarsgård as an enigmatic biker who takes on a shy man (Harry Melling) as his submissive.  Reviews were great (99% Fresh) and it certainly looks more interesting than today's other romantic comedy premiere, Office Romance starring Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein.  Why can't J-Lo find love, or given how many of these types of movies she's been in, why can't she stop finding love?

Honorable mention goes to Mexico 86, the "true" story of how Mexico managed to land the 1986 World Cup thereby becoming the first country to ever host twice.  The trailer looks fun but I'm mainly in it for Diego Luna, who I've only ever seen in Andor.  I feel like I should correct that oversight.
