Jeopardy! recap for Fri., May 29

 Here are today's contestants:

- Matt Patrick, a nonprofit program manager from Bloomfield, New Jersey;

- Lili Driggs, a banker from New York City; and

- Chris D'Angelo, a content manager from Washington, D.C. Chris is a seven-day champ with winnings of $174,201.

Jeopardy!

1-SYLLABLE SCIENCE // CROSSWORD CLUES "B" // AMERICAN HISTORY // CHICKS IN MOVIES & TV // ALL ABOUT EVES // IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT

DD1 - $1,000 - 1-SYLLABLE SCIENCE - You might say we have this chemical element to thank for the Bronze Age, since the Bronze Agers couldn't make bronze without it (Chris added $1,000 up to $7,600.)

Scores at first break: Chris $5,200, Lili $1,000, Matt -$600.

Scores entering DJ: Chris $11,000, Lili $400, Matt -$600.

Double Jeopardy!

"EL" ON EARTH // LINES IN BOOKS // UNDERGROUND // I'M AMBIVALENT ABOUT THIS CATEGORY // ALL THAT RASP // IN THE GLOVE DEPARTMENT

DD2 - $1,200 - UNDERGROUND - Troglofauna, a word new to "Jeopardy!", include a species discovered in 2020 of this arthropod, with one specimen having 1,306 legs (Chris improved by $4,000 to $18,600.)

DD3 - $800 - "EL" ON EARTH - A name associated with a place of great wealth... this county includes South Lake Tahoe & Grizzly Flats (Chris dropped $4,800 down to $15,400.)

Once again, no real contest here for Chris, who found all three DDs and maintained a solid lead into FJ at $16,200 vs. $5,800 for Matt and $4,400 for Lili.

Final Jeopardy!

EXERCISE - A WWI internee created this form of exercise, adapting hospital beds as makeshift equipment to rehab injured soldiers

Chris and Lili were correct on FJ, with Chris adding $3,800 to win with $20,000 for an eight-day total of $194,201.

Final scores: Chris $20,000, Lili $6,400, Matt $2,795.

Temporary Triple Stumper of the day: no one knew the preferred word for a "painful struggle" to make a tough decision is "agonizing". Matt responded with "wrestling", was ruled incorrect and was later given credit, even though a struggle in wrestling requires sustained, forceful effort but isn't necessarily "painful".

Clue selection strategy: After DD2 was found, three more clues in the same category were selected as well as two from the top row before DD3 was chosen.

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is tin? DD2 - What are millipede? DD3 - What is El Dorado? FJ - What is Pilates?
