I was going to rewrite the following. Then I realized that today was the anniversary of my confirmation. This is a holy time for many and my confirmation means little in the grand scheme against a multi-front war that threatens to become a bona fide World War. Won't Trump be proud of that?
At the time, my confirmation was a huge matter to me. I read, memorized and repeated Luther's Catechism. I had a copy in my own hand from memory. It included many things that I firmly disagree with now but it also gave me a moral compass that for better or worse still guides me. This country lacks a moral compass right now and I'll be damned if I can figure out a way to make ourselves right with the universe again. What follows below the fold was written last night. I've taken us through all of Dante's Inferno and all but one of the official steps of AA. Two versions of hell and both echo us.
This will not happen and his phrasing is insulting. Tributes were "given" to Emperors, Kings, Sultans, Lieges, whatever. The scare quotes are there because tributes are taxes. At best they are bribes. Iran owes us nothing. Since we started this mess, Israel and the US owe Iran reparations. And don't get me started on Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon.
Iran supplied superior drones to Russia. Russia took them, improved them and sent them back. Iranian drones are attacking Ukraine. Russian drones are attacking US bases in the middle east. And we don't even know which if not someone else sent a cloud of drones to Louisiana that was so dense that we couldn't fly our planes to the Persian Gulf.
Trump may be bored with this war and thinks it's funny to "rename" the Gulf of Mexico and the Strait of Hormuz. But the war is not going away because there are real damages happening to real people. Russia's war of aggression on Ukraine (I cried appeasement! when we let Putin steal Crimea) is now connected to US and Israel's war against everyone around Israel except Jordan and Egypt.
Israel is notably not helping us with our military adventures in the Caribbean and South America. Trump wants to build casino in Cuba again. What is he going to do with them if he can't launder Russian mafia money through them? Venezuela is not actively opposing us at the moment but when we show a sign of weakness they'll retake their own oil and trade it to Cuba for doctors. Mexico is still taking Cuban doctors. They have more doctors per capita and they are better trained. If we take Cuba all of that will be gone under RFKJ.
The only country that is actually working with us is Ecuador. The currency of Ecuador is the US dollar and they are allowed to mint US currency. If you look out into the big port of Guyquil, Ecuador, approximately every other ship is US Navy. And that was when I was there a few years ago before we started blowing up fishing boats. The latest battle that the Department of "War" is proud is when they bombed the hell out of a drug "training" site, whatever the hell that means, that turns out to have been a 50 cow dairy farm. I'm from Wisconsin and I can tell you that 50 cows won't get you much. But if you're relying on American "intelligence" it will get you blown up.
