Politics Corner March 22

Okay, as far as cults go, AA is cheap. They pass the hat around and just about everyone drops a dollar in. This is where I get embarrassed but not guilty. And Step 6 has a lot to do with that. I belonged to a much more expensive cult. I was taught to tithe 10% of my earnings. Once I was a confirmed member of my (Missouri Synod, not the good guys in ELCA like Patrick Ausgewahlt) Lutheran church I got my own box of envelopes for the weekly offering. I was always there. I was in the choir. I was an usher. And I tithed 10% out of my McDonald's pay. I donated more than my parents. The church counsel sent emissaries to my parents. And the church didn't want me anyway because I was gay.

Step 6: Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

Fuck that. I'm waiting for God to remove defects of his character. There is just something about AA that that turn me off; God bless those that it helps. I wish there was an easy out too but there's no easy out.
