What's On Tonight (Friday): No Wave Like the New Wave...

Nouvelle Vague

Today's Top Pick is Richard Linklater's Nouvelle Vague, which tells the story of the making of Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless while aping that film's style.  I have never seen Breathless, but Nouvelle looks fun and interesting and maybe it will inspire me to watch the original.  I did recently start a 4K collection and the Criterion edition of Breathless is sitting right there.  Very tempting.

๐ŸŽฅ Nouvelle Vague (Netflix, 3:01 AM) 'The story of Godard making Breathless, told in the style and spirit in which Godard made Breathless.

Elsewhere...

*If the French New Wave doesn't float your boat, there's also the new series Malice, starring David Duchovny and Jack Whitehall.  It's difficult to tell from the trailer if Whitehall is playing a psycho or has a legitimate beef with Duchovny and his family.  Probably a little of both.

*If you want something French but don't want to ride the wave, there's the Les Liaisons Dangereuses inspired The Seduction.  I wrote "inspired" because this adaptation looks to be pretty loose, sort of like all the French sex maniacs the story is about.  I shouldn't judge.  It isn't like there was a lot else to do in 1700s France.

*If you're one of those people who still doesn't feel like they've seen and read enough material on The Beatles over the last 75 years, HBO has One to One: John & Yoko.  The documentary covers the months the couple spent living in Greenwich Village in the early 70's.  This is your reminder than there are four Beatles films set for 2028 with each focused on a different band member.  My prediction: they will all end up going to streaming.
