Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Nov. 17

 Here are today's contestants:

- Rachel Bernstein, a teacher from Los Angeles, California;

- Lawrence Suba, a technical software trainer from Verona, Wisconsin; and

- Harrison Whitaker, a researcher originally from Terre Haute, Indiana. Harrison is a four-day champ with winnings of $116,600.

Jeopardy!

NEVER HAVE I EVER // SECOND NOVELS // NO TIME TO SAY THE WHOLE WORD // THEIR MAIN INSTRUMENT // THAT'S BULL! // HAPPY 250th ANNIVERSARY, USPS

DD1 - $1,000 - THAT'S BULL! - From a 1521 papal bull excommunicating Martin Luther: "He has been declared a" this, something you never want the pope to call you (Rachel added $1,000.)

Scores at first break: Harrison $7,400, Lawrence $1,600, Rachel -$200.

Scores entering DJ: Harrison $4,600, Lawrence $1,800, Rachel $2,200.

Double Jeopardy!

WEIRDLY NAMED CONFLICTS // 4-SYLLABLE WORDS // THIS IS NOT A SAFE SPACE // MOVIE MONOLOGUES // THE SOUTH PACIFIC // TENACIOUS, THEE

DD2 - $1,600 - WEIRDLY NAMED CONFLICTS - Part of this numerical clash, the 1760s Fantastic War had no major battles --just troop movements when Spain invaded Portugal (With a lead of nearly $13K, Harrison added $4,800 up to $20,000.)

DD3 - $2,000 - THE SOUTH PACIFIC - James Cook's dad was a migrant from Scotland, so it's little surprise he named an island "New" this, for dad's homeland (Harrison improved by $1,200 up to $30,000.)

Harrison stayed in clear control throughout and scored on both DDs in DJ, recording another runaway into FJ at $35,200 vs. $13,000 for Rachel and $600 for Lawrence.

Final Jeopardy!

POETIC OBJECTS - In a British poem, this is “raddled with Napoleon’s paint, nose eaten by a less clear conqueror"

Everyone was correct on FJ. Harrison maximized his FJ wager, adding $9,199 to win with $44,399 for a five-day total of $160,999.

Final scores: Harrison $44,399, Lawrence $1,100, Rachel $24,799.

That's before their time: No one knew the group that rapped, "Well you can't, you won't & you don't stop, Mike D, come & rock the sure shot", the Beastie Boys.

Overpriced clue dept.: $2,000 for knowing the 1976 movie with Faye Dunaway, Peter Finch & Ned Beatty, "Network".

Judging the writers: After making four appearances in clues this season, it might be time to let Captain James Cook rest in peace for a while.

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is heretic? DD2 - What is Seven Years' War? DD3 - What is Caledonia? FJ - What is the Sphinx?
