Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Jul. 2

 Here are today's contestants:

- Jeff Foels, a stay-at-home dad from Minneapolis, Minnesota

- Stephanie Yang, a children's book designer from Queens, New York; and

- Jason Singer, a real estate agent from Portland, Maine. Jason is a one-day champ with winnings of $22,401.

Jeopardy!

COUNTRIES BY TRAVEL ITINERARY // BUT FIRST COFFEE // CELEBRITIES // E BEFORE I // ISN'T IT ICONIC? // DON'T YOU THINK?

DD1 - $800 - ISN'T IT ICONIC? - Britannica noted the image of this man who died in Bolivia in 1967 "became an icon of leftist radicalism and anti-imperialism" (Stephanie added $1,000.)

Scores at first break: Jason $1,200, Stephanie $4,400, Jeff $2,600.

Scores entering DJ: Jason $4,800, Stephanie $4,800, Jeff $6,000.

Double Jeopardy!

NATIONAL MEMORIALS // TELEVISION // SHAKESPEARE'S OPENING LINES // OVERLAPS // -OLOGY // HISTORICAL SHARK TANK

DD2 - $1,200 - -OLOGY - Dating from the early 20th century, this 2-word phrase refers to a suggestion intended to get someone to do the opposite (Jeff added $4,000 to his score of $9,600 vs. $10,000 for Jason.)

DD3 - $1,600 - HISTORICAL SHARK TANK - Mr. Wonderful will invest in Elizabeth Magie Phillips' "Landlord's Game"... if she'll rename it this, nice to have in business (On the very next clue after DD2, Jeff lost $4,000.)

Jason had several tough beats in a wordplay category, so had to settle for a tie with Jeff for first place going into FJ at $13,200 vs. $4,800 for Stephanie.

Final Jeopardy!

MEN OF MEDICINE - He told of a patient who "took hold of his wife's head, tried to lift it off, to put it on"

Jason and Jeff were correct on FJ. Jeff chose to make a mid-sized wager while Jason bet it all to win with $26,400 for a two-day total of $48,801 and breaking the streak of 13 one-day champs.

Final scores: Jason $26,400, Stephanie $4,800, Jeff $16,799.

Wagering strategy: Jeff's logic on FJ was that it was more likely for Jason to miss FJ than for Jeff both to get it correct, and possibly have to win a coin-flip tiebreaker clue. Given how fast Jason was on the signaling device for those last several low-value clues, Jeff's approach did make sense.

Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the actor appearing as the lead on Broadway in "Good Night, and Good Luck" is George Clooney.

Correct Qs: DD1 - Who was Che Guevara? DD2 - What is reverse psychology? DD3 - What is Monopoly? FJ - Who was Oliver Sacks?
