Politics Corner Juneteenth

I try to find different sources for important historical events. There was no question where I would turn for Juneteenth Day this year. President Trump did not spend the today honoring history. He spent the day complaining that Americans would rather be working. I'm waiting for evidence that he works. It was a no-brainer to turn to the National Museum of African American History & Culture, part of the Smithsonian Institution. If Trump and his administration have their way it won't be there next year or will be but a shadow of itself.

I've always questioned whether one particular day was actually Juneteenth. It doesn't matter now but it would have mattered to those still enslaved deep in rural Texas. But it is a nice story to tell ourselves and it's a story that we need to keep telliing ourselves. [Smithsonian]

I love the expression on the face of the woman on the left
this was 1900 and people did not smile in photographs
but there was nothing against showing pride
