Medicaid is there for people who cannot work or who cannot find work that can pay their bills. Medicaid is not easy and it's certainly no cure-all but it can be the difference between pre-natal care and just stumbling into the emergency room when it's time. Medicaid makes it possible for people to have a primary doctor that they can consult. Otherwise? They have to resort to the emergency room. ERs are required to take people in but often don't and reroute them. ERs are expensive and the people who can't afford insurance sure can't pay those bills. They can wind up in debt for life for what turned out to be a minor treatment. They get no credit ever and guess what? You pay the bill. That's what's in that big bill that just got shoved through Congress and up our ass. [ProPublica]
