beware of Harlan Crow

Today, May 1st, May Day, is a holiday just about everywhere except the United States. This is shameful because it is a celebration of a labor uprising in Chicago's Haymarket Square. It wasn't particularly good news at the time but concepts like the eight hour work day, the five day work week (yes Dowager, the week...end), and worker safety and all sorts of labor rights can be traced back to Haymarket. Incidentally those same rights are under attack by the current administration and that's why there were marches and demonstrations in the streets today to match the other countries who observe May Day every year.
I try to bring a different source for Haymarket history every year. Forgive me if you've seen this one before. It's a good version and a short read. [Illinois Labor History Society]
