Jeopardy! recap for Wed., May 7

 Here are today's contestants:

- Dan Moren, a writer & podcaster from Somerville, Massachusetts;

- Michelle Tsai, a tutor originally from Honolulu, Hawai'i; and

- Sarah Gillis, a mortgage loan processor from Asbury Park, New Jersey. Sarah is a one-day champ with winnings of $7,300.

Jeopardy!

DOCTORED TELEVISION // EVENTS OF 2005 // THE INSTRUMENT OF MY FAME // WORDS THAT SHOULD RHYME // THEY ALMOST TORE IT DOWN // IYKYK

DD1 - $600 - THEY ALMOST TORE IT DOWN - In 1944 a G.I. almost ordered artillery to destroy this Tuscan landmark suspected of being an observation post (From the lead, Michelle dropped $4,600 on a true DD.)

Scores at first break: Sarah $800, Michelle $3,400, Dan $4,200.

Scores entering DJ: Sarah $1,200, Michelle $3,200, Dan $3,800.

Double Jeopardy!

CITIES AROUND THE WORLD // STAGE NAMES // HOW ABOUT A LITTLE SCIENCE? // COUP LA LA // 21st CENTURY FICTION // ALL THE WAY FROM L TO M

DD2 - $2,000 - CITIES AROUND THE WORLD - Malaysia's oldest city, it shares its name with a nearby strait (Sarah lost $2,400 from her score of $6,400 vs. $8,000 for Michelle.)

DD3 - $800 - ALL THE WAY FROM L TO M - In 1894, one of these impasses on the Mississippi River stretched for nearly 7 miles & took 150 lumberjacks to break up (Dan improved by $3,000 to $9,200 vs. $8,000 for Michelle.)

Sarah had a chance to take first place on DD2 but missed, then Dan took the lead on DD3 and managed to prevail late in the round, holding the advantage into FJ at $17,200 vs. $13,600 for Michelle and $1,200 for Sarah.

Final Jeopardy!

THE GRAMMYS - Best New Artist at the 7th annual Grammys, this band would be nominated the next 6 years but not again until the 39th and 67th events

Everyone was incorrect on FJ. Michelle wisely made a mid-sized bet, but Dan, perhaps not feeling great about the category, wagered $0 instead of making the usual cover bet from the lead, winning with $17,200.

Final scores: Sarah $0, Michelle $8,600, Dan $17,200.

Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the celebrity stage name inspired by a "comedic cushion" is Whoopi Goldberg.

Judging the writers: Don't know if HOW ABOUT A LITTLE SCIENCE? and CITIES AROUND THE WORLD are better category names than SCIENCE and WORLD CITIES, but they're certainly longer.

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is Leaning Tower of Pisa? DD2 - What is Malacca? DD3 - What is logjam? FJ - Who are The Beatles?
