OUR NEANDERTHAL RELATIVES // SIGNS & SYMBOLS // THERE'S A BIRD IN YOUR RESPONSE // ARE WE HAVING FUN YET? // PICK A NICK // BASKETS

DD1 - $800 - SIGNS & SYMBOLS - From Latin for "apple with many seeds", this fruit is a symbol of fertility in many cultures (Dan added $1,000.)

Scores entering DJ: Dan $6,800, Kara $2,200, Zach $2,000.

Double Jeopardy!

QUEEN STORY HOUR // AMERICANA // WORDS ABOUT WORDS //ISLANDS // THE 1913 ARMORY SHOW // PROPERTY WATCHING

DD2 - $1,600 - WORDS ABOUT WORDS - Watergate helped popularize this term for a bad word; it plus "deleted" replaced curse words in White House transcripts (Dan lost $2,000 from his leading score of $8,400.)

DD3 - $1,200 - THE 1913 ARMORY SHOW - 10 years after his death, this well-traveled painter from Paris was at the Armory Show in spirit with his "Faa Iheihe" (Dan lost $1,500 from his total of $7,200 vs. $9,800 for Kara.)

Strange game in which Dan seemed to be in solid shape early in DJ, but he missed both DDs in the round, Kara got on a bit of a roll and somehow wound up with a runaway at $12,200 vs. $5,700 for Dan. Out of the running at -$1,200 was Zach.

Final scores: Dan $100, Kara $12,400, Zach -$1,200.

Tough categories of the day: The players missed three in both ARE WE HAVING FUN YET and AMERICANA, including ones about the game where you can "dye" (paintball) and notorious Louisiana pirate Jean Lafitte.
