Jeopardy! recap for Fri., May 2

 Here are today's contestants:

- Sam Sabulis, an attorney from Atlanta, Georgia;

- Shweta Balasubramanian, a marketing manager from Pomona, California; and

- Ben Ganger, a data analyst from Goshen, Indiana. Ben is a three-day champ with winnings of $76,415.

Jeopardy!

WORLD HISTORY // A LITTLE BIT OF LIT // BEAVER FEVER // 4-LETTER SYNONYMS // "POP"-POURRI // RADIO

DD1 - $1,000 - RADIO - On October 31, 1938 the New York Times reported that "many flee homes to escape 'gas raid from Mars"' after this famous broadcast (Ben doubled to $2,400.)

Scores at first break: Ben $4,000, Shweta -$1,000, Sam $1,200.

Scores entering DJ: Ben $5,600, Shweta -$200, Sam $1,800.

Double Jeopardy!

GOVERNORS // "A" IS FOR CAPITAL // CLASSICAL MUSIC // FROM THE BRONX // ECHO-NOMICS // FANCY A WORD?

DD2 - $1,600 - GOVERNORS - Her father Ajit Singh Randhawa was a professor at the HBCU Voorhees College in South Carolina (With a large lead, Ben added $3,500 to his score of $10,400.)

DD3 - $1,600 - "A" IS FOR CAPITAL - This capital lies on the Anatolian Plateau, 3,000 above sea level (Ben improved by $5,000 to $18,900.)

Another rather ho-hum day for Ben, who quickly swept all three DDs and sailed into FJ at $22,500 vs. $7,800 for Sam and $1,000 for Shweta.

Final Jeopardy!

BOATS & SHIPS - Nearly a century after her 1851 sporting triumph, she was a rotting hulk finally scrapped in 1945

Everyone was incorrect on FJ. Ben dropped $2,500 to win with $20,000 for a four-day total of $96,415.

Final scores: Ben $20,000, Shweta $320, Sam $5,189.

That's before their time: No one could quite nail down the "Beantown" light classical orchestra led for years by Arthur Fiedler, the Boston Pops.

Judging the writers: Based on their valuations, they apparently feel a clue about Bucky Beaver doing commercials for toothpaste is far easier than one about the most infamous radio broadcast of all time.

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is "The War of the Worlds"? DD2 - Who is Haley? DD3 - What is Ankara? FJ - What is the America?
