What's On Tonight (Friday): Will Someone Please Make Michelle Williams Orgasm Before She Dies?

Dying for Sex

I've stated before that there are many reasons why something can be designated Top Pick.  Usually, I bestow the honorific on whatever I am most likely to actually watch.  When that fails, I'll go with something I want to highlight or just seems interesting.  Other times I'll choose based on whatever trailer I got the best GIF from.  And every now and then I grant it to whatever inspires the best headline.  Today's Top Pick, the Hulu limited series Dying for Sex, falls squarely into the last category.

Inspired by a true story, Michelle Williams plays a woman dying of cancer who decides to spend what time she has left exploring all the sex stuff she never got around to.  Even with a supporting cast featuring Jenny Slate and Rob Delaney, this series holds exactly zero interest for me.  But, my goodness, how I love the headline it inspired.  I don't know if one is allowed to chef's kiss one's own stuff, but I feel here it is earned.

I do crack myself up sometimes even when I'm not stoned.

TOP PICK

โญ๐Ÿ”” Dying for Sex (Hulu, 12:01 AM) LIMITED SERIES. 'After Molly (Michelle Williams) receives a diagnosis of Stage IV metastatic breast cancer, she decides to leave her husband, Steve (Jay Duplass) and begins to explore the full breadth and complexity of her sexual desires for the first time in her life.  Also stars Jenny Slate and Rob Delaney.'

Elsewhere...

*If the Top Pick isn't your cup of tea, maybe check out the streaming premiere of comedy-horror film Y2K on Max.  It doesn't have the best reviews, but the trailer looks fun, and it is the best reviewed live action Rachel Zegler film released in the last few months.  Zegler really needs to fire her agent.

*Over on Peacock is the streaming premiere of the Milli Vanilli biopic, Girl You Know It's True.  It looks like the movie is played straight.  Might just be me, but it seems like this was screaming for the same type of film as Weird: The Weird Al Yankovic Story.  I guess since the one guy died it wouldn't be quite as funny.  Whatever, I'd still like to see that version.

*Oh, and it turns out last week's runner up for Top Pick, Mid-Century Modern, is actually pretty good.  I won't retroactively award it this website's highest honor as I still think the trailer makes the show look terrible, but it is nice to know that the talented cast isn't being wasted on bullshit.  I'm sure it will be in contention in the future when the inevitable second season is released.  I just hope it has a less God- awful trailer.
