What's On Tonight (Friday): Like A Good Neighbor, Jon Hamm is There (Stealing Your Shit)

Your Friends  Neighbors

Today's Top Pick is the Apple original series, Your Friends & Neighbors.  Jon Hamm plays a formerly rich guy who loses his job and turns to stealing from his still rich friends and neighbors.  Obviously, there will be unexpected complications and twists and turns and ultimately Jon Hamm will probably end up worse off than he started.  Normally I have no interest in shows about rich people as I find it next to impossible to empathize with them, but Jon Hamm has made a career out of playing unlikeable characters and somehow making them... well, not likeable, but at least enjoyable.

TOP PICK

๐Ÿ”” Your Friends & Neighbors (Apple, 12:01 AM) SERIES PREMIERE. 'After being fired in disgrace, Andrew "Coop" Cooper (Jon Hamm), a hedge fund manager still grappling with his recent divorce, resorts to stealing from his neighbors' homes in the exceedingly affluent Vestment Village, only to discover that the secrets and affairs hidden behind those wealthy facades might be more dangerous than he ever imagined.'

Elsewhere...

*Disney+ has the streaming premiere of the 4K version of James Cameron's The Abyss.  I wasn't going to include this as it's a pretty old movie, but it's a pretty old movie that I happen to love.  The ending special effects are indeed terrible (I don't think those got spruced up for the 4K), but that doesn't negate how technically impressive the rest of the film is, not to mention the incredible cast.

*Disney+ also has the new documentary, Pets.  Directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, it's exactly what the title promises.  I'm not sure why you should watch this over the literally endless pet videos on YouTube and TikTok, but maybe you like to have things curated a bit for you.  I'm sure it'll be adorable and might even take your mind off of the seventh level of hell this country has become.

*For anyone who was sad about Bob Uecker recently passing, Roku has a new documentary titled Just a Bit Outside about the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers that features Uecker in one of his final interviews.  A lot of other people are interviewed too, but Uecker is the draw here.  The makers of the film seem to agree as the title is a Uecker quote from Major League.  I'm not a big baseball guy, but I love Uecker.  And until we get a wide-ranging documentary series on the magic that was Mr. Belvedere, this will have to suffice.
