Let's start with a history lesson today. We're taking a deep dive into El Salvador. We're not even going back to the beginning of the US fucking the country up. Long before Trump started calling places shithole countries we talked about banana republics. It was derogatory and misdirected. American companies - often fruit plantations - overran the countries south of Mexico and took them over. We did the same to Hawaii but made them a state because it was too important strategically. That's background but we've never lost that sense of ownership. It's perverse because we don't want the people here but we keep our hold. And we murder nuns. [New Republic]
