Traditionally, a May Day Basket includes snacks and candies, as well as fresh seasonal produce.
Oatcakes and bannocks were also popular.
These would often be left anonymously - and if the basket hanger was seen, the recipient would give chase.
The activity seems to have faded by 1963, before it could be commercialized....
