Here are today's Invitational Tournament contestants:
- Ryan Long, a rideshare driver from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania;
- Robin Carroll, an instructional designer from Atlanta, Georgia; and
- Ray Lalonde, a scenic artist from Toronto, Ontario.
Jeopardy!
CITIES ON THE LAKE // 2 WORDS, 4 SYLLABLES // OH, "I.C." // TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION // NONFICTION TV // SOMETHING TO READ
DD1 - 1,000 - TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION - In 1942 rails in Utah were removed as war scrap & this commemorative item (OK, a replica) was pulled up after 73 years (Robin added 1,200.)
Scores at first break: Ray 2,200, Robin 1,000,Ryan 1,000.
Scores entering DJ: Ray 2,800, Robin 5,200,Ryan 3,400.
Double Jeopardy!
FASCISM // GETTING POSSESSIVE // OLDEN LANGUAGE // YOU SAY YOU WANT AN EVOLUTION // FILM COMPOSERS // WORLD RELIGION
DD2 - 1,600 - FASCISM - George Soros survived the rule of the Arrow Cross Fascist Party in this country late in World War II (Ray took the lead by doubling to 8,000.)
DD3 - 1,600 - GETTING POSSESSIVE - Named for a 5th c. Greek philosopher, they're logical conundrums springing from flawed assumptions about what we know (Ray improved by 3,000 to 15,400 vs. 10,000 for Robin.)
Ray extended his lead on DD3, but came up short of a runaway into FJ at 17,000. Robin was incorrect on a 2,000 clue very late and fell into third with 9,200 behind Ryan with 9,800.
Final Jeopardy!
WORLD GEOGRAPHY - Located on an island, in 2016 this world capital began following two different time zones
Once again this week everyone was incorrect on FJ. Ray had a big enough lead that he held on, dropping 2,601 to advance with 14,399.
Final scores: Ray 14,399, Robin 8,599, Ryan 100.
Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the real last name of Johnny Appleseed is Chapman.
Wagering strategy: Robin appeared to size her FJ wager of 601 to pass second-place Ryan, but it gave her no chance to win the game unless Ray were to make a colossal wagering error.
Clue valuation dept: In "I.C.", the writers apparently thought the name of the baseball team Hank Aaron played for in the early 50s, the Indianapolis Clowns, would be more familiar to contestants than Iron Curtain and inventory control.
Correct Qs: DD1 - What is Golden Spike? DD2 - What is Hungary? DD3 - What are Zeno's paradoxes? FJ - What is Nicosia?
