What's On Tonight (Thursday): It's The Pitts

Tonight's Top Pick is The Pitt, John Wells & Noah Wyle's return to medical drama. Is the prognosis positive, or will audience lose patience with the patients? Only time will tell. Runner-up for Top Pick was On Call, Dick Wolf's latest, which features Eriq La Salle.


While I wonder what that Clooney chap is up to, let's see what else TV has to offer us for Thursday, Jan. 9. All times are EST.


STREAMING
The Pitt, 3:01 a.m., Max. Series premiere. "A realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today's America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania." Two episodes available, followed by one per week through Thursday, April 10.

On Call, 3:01 a.m., Amazon. Series premiere. "An adrenalized procedural that puts us inside the squad car and on the streets with Long Beach Police. Through training officer Traci Harmon (Troian Bellisario) and rookie Alex Diaz (Brandon Larracuente), the series examines how the complexities of the job affects the human condition. Harmon will be enlightened by a kid from the streets, while Diaz will learn that policing isn’t black and white - it requires shades of grey." Eriq La Salle and Lori Loughlin costar. American Primeval, 3:01 a.m., Netflix. Series premiere. "A mother and son (Betty Gilpin and Preston Mota) fleeing from their past form a found family while confronting a harsh landscape of freedom and cruelty in the American West." Dane DeHaan and Taylor Kitsch costar. Six episodes available.

Vera, 3:01 a.m., Britbox. Series finale. "The Dark Wives." "A body is found near local stones called The Dark Wives. Vera investigates the murder of a bright young student, uncovering connections to her childhood memories. Past and present intertwine as she solves the case in an emotional farewell."

The Upshaws, 3:01 a.m., Netflix. Sixth season premiere. Ten episodes available.

Sons of Ecstasy, 3:01 a.m., Max. Special presentation. "A British financier and mafia son battle over the 1990s ecstasy drug trade."

White Lies, 3:01 a.m., Sundance Now. "Teach Them Well and Let Them Lead the Way." "Matters accelerate towards a resolution as Forty Bell barely escapes the dangerous Zone 41 with his life, one of the children reveal a hidden side of their personality, and the killer reveals himself to Edie." Season finale next week.

Today, 7 a.m., NBC. Jamie Foxx & Cameron Diaz (Back in Action). Later, Dr. Ian Smith (Eat Your Age), more of Jamie and Cameron, winter skin relief, what to read, and Arianna Davis (What Would Frida Do?). Finally, Justin Sylvester (E! Hell's Kitchen, FOX. "Black Jacket Time." "Gordon Ramsay announces this week determines which chefs will receive one of the coveted black jackets. The chefs must use their creativity and pull out all the stops to attempt to stand out from the pack."

The This Old House Hour, PBS. "Ridgewood: Swiss Mix" and "Trash Insert; Arborvitae Removal." "A trip to Switzerland to see how the project's house wrap is made. Goals for the design plan.
