Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Jan. 7

Here are today's Second Chance contestants:

- Josh Heit, a government relations professional from Silver Spring, Maryland;

- Zoe Grobman, a therapist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and

- Enzo Cunanan, a student from Orlando, Florida.

Jeopardy!

WORLD CITIES // CHECK OUT MY COIN COLLECTION // HALL OF FAMERS // A GAME OF RUTH OR BLAIR // SCRAMBLED EGG LAYERS // VOWEL, CONSONANT, VOWEL

DD1 - 1,000 - WORLD CITIES - Though its name means "place of the thunderbolt", this city in West Bengal is better known as a city of tea (Enzo lost 1,000.)

Scores at first break: Enzo 800, Zoe 600, Josh 3,800.

Scores entering DJ: Enzo 400, Zoe 3,800, Josh 5,200.

Double Jeopardy!

WHAT HAPPENED WHEN // POTENT QUOTABLES // OPERA SETTINGS // THE FATHER OF // THAT'S SHOWBIZ // BRAIN "ROT"

DD2 - 1,200 - OPERA SETTINGS - Richard Strauss' "Der Rosenkavalier" takes place in 18th century Vienna during the reign of this empress (Enzo added 2,000.)

DD3 - 1,200 - POTENT QUOTABLES - This pale dry sherry gets title billing in a Poe tale (Zoe's pronunciation was off the mark, dropping her score by 6,000.)

Scores entering FJ: Enzo 15,600, Zoe 6,600, Josh 9,600.

Final Jeopardy!

FACTS ABOUT COUNTRIES - It has 40,000 people & a workforce of 42,000, more than half commuting from nearby, including Vorarlberg state in a neighbor country

Enzo and Zoe were correct on FJ, so Zoe's error on DD3 proved very costly. Enzo added 3,800 to advance with 19,400.

Final scores: Enzo 19,400, Zoe 12,001, Josh 5,999.

Triple Stumper of the day: Perhaps an explanation of the category would have helped the players get the traditional symbol of happiness with the letters in RIDE BULB, bluebird.

Pedantry corner: Once again this week, the writers are using strange grammar: the FJ clue should read "neighboring country" rather than "neighbor country".

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is Darjeeling? DD2 - Who was Maria Theresa? DD3 - What is amontillado? FJ - What is Liechtenstein?
