Our Top Pick tonight is Call the Midwife (PBS, 8 p.m.). This British series is entering its 14(!!!) season and tonight is the annual Christmas special. The period drama started out about the midwives and the nuns of Nonnatus House in 1950s London. Now, the setting is about to enter the 1970s. It's a watchable, undemanding drama, but I found it getting repetitious way back in season 4 when I bailed.

Elsewhere, the Doctor is back, Paradise finds a festive ghost, the Winter Soldier gets stopped, and ABC shoots some hoops.
