What's On Tonight (Friday): Juror #2 is the Shit

Juror #2

Not much of interest premiering today.  Most of the networks and streamers have already gotten their best stuff out there.  For whatever reason Max is bucking that trend and premiering Juror #2.

The latest film from Clint Eastwood has been the subject of controversy over it barely getting released in theaters before being sent to Max.  Eastwood has a solid track record of making hit movies aimed at adults, and Juror #2 has gotten some of the strongest notices of any Eastwood film (93% Fresh as of Dec 19).  So why didn't this get a traditional release?  Apparently, the people who run Warner Bros these days don't think anyone wants to see a Clint Eastwood movie anymore, at least not in a theater.  I hope Eastwood kicks their whippersnapper asses.

TOP PICK

🎥 Juror #2 (Max, 3:01 AM) STREAMING PREMIERE. 'Follows family man Justin Kemp who, while serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma... one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict--or free--the accused killer. Directed by Clint Eastwood.'

Elsewhere...

*It's not all desolation amongst the premieres today.  Netflix has Tyler Perry's latest, The Six Triple Eight, which follows the only black Women's Army Corp unit to serve overseas during World War 2.  Your mileage may vary with Tyler Perry, but the trailer looks solid.  Luckily Perry brought in Kerry Washington to play the lead rather than donning his Madea garb.

*CBS is giving over its Primetime to Christmas specials: the National Christmas Tree Lighting and a new music special featuring Josh Groban.  It has only been a week since the end of Blue Bloods and it feels like CBS has already forgotten about the 'Stache and moved on.  But how are the rest of us supposed to live?

*Are you sick of all the Christmas bullshit and wish someone would show a film about a young woman being terrorized while alone in a diner at night?  Shudder is here for you with the new film, Last Straw.  I don't know what the twist is, but the trailer wants very much for you to know there is a twist.  That seems like a really good way to piss people off if the twist doesn't meet with their expectations.
