Politics Corner December 17

photo mine  (beware of  Harlan)

Let's start with good or at least amusing news. I'm going to leave talk about mass murders, fangirling and fanboying a murderer and a vengeful President-elect for another day. It 's not like they won't come up in the news again.

So this boat ran out of gas in Milwaukee Harbor. I'm assuming that they must have been drunk or at least drinking because instead of hailing the Coast Guard, who are never very far away, the owners chose to run the boat aground between Bradford and McKinley beaches. It's been there a while. It's kind of unmovable. There are t-shirts that you can buy. A DJ performed a set from the boat. And now it's more colorful. [Milwaukee Record]

Sticking with Wisconsin for another sort of good news story. It starts with bad news as these things often do. Now that wolves have been reestablished, Wisconsin has only one endangered mammal, the marten. It's so endangered that I've only got a pencil sketch instead of a photo. An extensive federally funded program got through before Trump and his minions got their hands on it. [WXPR]

We're well below the fold now so it's time for the bad news. So let's spread some Christmas cheer. Homeless encampments around the country are being dispersed. It's bad enough in Jackson or Charleston but it's going to be really cold in Pittsburgh. There's always the excuse of drug use but no one ever seems to consider that drug use is a reason why some homeless people will never be welcome in shelters no matter how cold it is. Drug use is not tolerated. Religion is often enforced. There's also no way to protect the few belongings one has. Certainly no pets allowed.  [Mississippi Free Press] [Count on 2] [CBS]
