Here are today's contestants:
- Brian Frey, a journeyman originally from Syosset, New York;
- Lindsey Simmons, an attorney originally from Marshall, Missouri; and
- Greg Jolin, a system specialist & accountant from Raymond, New Hampshire. Greg is a two-day champ with winnings of $50,002.
Jeopardy!
DEAD LIKE ME // A VERY VANILLA CATEGORY // HER FIRST NO. 1 POP HIT // ALL SAINTS // THE QUOTABLE OSCAR WILDE // 5, 5
DD1 - $800 - THE QUOTABLE OSCAR WILDE - This watery site "must be one of the earliest, if not the keenest, disappointments in American married life" (Brian lost $3,000 on a true DD.)
Scores at first break: Greg $4,000, Lindsey -$400, Brian $1,800.
Scores entering DJ: Greg $7,800, Lindsey -$1,200, Brian $2,600.
Double Jeopardy!
WORLD FLAGS // DON'T DO THE MATH // HEALTH & MEDICINE // EPICS // THE ODYSSEY // THE "NE" ADD
DD2 (video) - $1,200 - WORLD FLAGS - The four stars on Tokelau's flag represent this constellation and the role of Christianity in the country's culture (Brian doubled to $6,000 vs. $9,000 for Greg.)
DD3 - $1,600 - EPICS - No one-trick pony, Finder, who starred in "Seabiscuit", also played Joey in this World War I epic (Brian lost $5,000 from his score of $6,000 vs. $10,600 for Greg.)
Brian found all three DDs and missed two of them, including a costly mistake on DD3 that set Greg up for a runaway into FJ at $19,000 vs. $5,600 for Lindsey and $3,800 for Brian.
Final Jeopardy!
19th CENTURY LIT - All introduced in the same chapter of a novel, Grimaud, Mousqueton & Bazin are the servants of these men
Greg and Brian were correct. Greg added $6,000 to win with $25,000 for a three-day total of $75,002.
Final scores: Greg $25,000, Lindsey $3,399, Brian $7,599.
Literary liabilities: No one could figure out the last word in the Oscar Wilde quote "Moderation is a fatal thing... nothing succeeds like excess", or the play inspired by a 1609 shipwreck and its castaways is "The Tempest".
Judging the writers: The FJ clue could have just been the words following the first comma, and it would have been just as easy to solve. Also, somehow in preparing the first round board, they apparently didn't consider Boise, Idaho a state capital that fit the 5, 5 category.
Correct Qs: DD1 - What is Niagara Falls? DD2 - What is Southern Cross? DD3 - What is "War Horse"? FJ - Who are the Three Musketeers?
