What's On Tonight (Saturday): Weekend gender bender

Ranma 1/2

Merry Christmas? Here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, October 12!

Our Top Pick tonight is Ranma 1/2 (Netflix, 3 a.m.). The series, a pretty faithful (well, 1 episode anyway) remake of the original '80s/'90s series, follows the teenage boy and martial arts prodigy Ranma, who after an accident in China, changes from boy to girl he touched cold water. How queer the show is remains largely in the eye of the beholder. The creator used the device more for laughs and relatability but there's certainly a critique on traditional gender roles and society throughout.

Elsewhere, Ariana Grande and Stevie Nicks are Live from New York, Christmas movie season has begun, John Hodgman has News, Lifetime won't be Dumped, Maggie Rogers goes to the Limits, and Hallmark is Haunted.

πŸŽ₯/πŸ“Ί Laurel & Hardy (Catchy Comedy, all weekend): FAMOUS PARTNERS for $100: In 1926 they were partnered by director Leo McCarey, & the rest is history; "a fine mess", but history (5 Apr 1999)

⭐ Ranma 1/2 (Netflix, 3 a.m.): Episode 2 stuff happens. Ranma doesn't like gender flipping, especially having to be a girl. Plus existing alongside 3 other girls, one of whom is to be his wife.
