Here are today's contestants:
- Emily Stowell-Bui, a children’s librarian from Charleston, South Carolina;
- Adam Stewart, a power engineer from Fort St. John, British Columbia; and
- Ryan Manton, a systems administrator from Columbus, Ohio. Ryan is a three-day champ with winnings of $67,379.
Jeopardy!
PEOPLE'S SEXIEST MAN ALIVE // KIDDY LIT // BRAND MASCOTS // BEASTLY RHYME TIME // IT'S TECHNICAL // ALSO A PAPAL NAME
DD1 - $1,000 - IT'S TECHNICAL - The drum in a clothes dryer is an example of the basket type of this spinning device seen in many a lab (Ryan doubled to $2,000.)
Scores at first break: Ryan $1,000, Adam $4,400, Emily -$800.
Scores entering DJ: Ryan $5,400, Adam $5,600, Emily -$800.
Double Jeopardy!
A GLIMPSE INTO THE PAST // FILM FROM FICTION // ARCHIPELAGOS // ANCIENTLY DRAMATIC // POSSESSIVE TERMS // FLIP THE FIRST & LAST LETTER
DD2 - $800 - ARCHIPELAGOS - This archipelago about 60 miles off the coast of Morocco is Spain's southernmost autonomous community (Adam lost $2,000 from his score of $6,000 vs. $5,400 for Ryan.)
DD3 - $1,200 - POSSESSIVE TERMS - A structure of ropes & wooden steps for ascending a ship's rigging, or something that appears in Genesis 28:12 (Adam lost $6,400 on a true DD vs. $14,600 for Ryan.)
Adam found DD3 with less than half of Ryan's score, and despite saying he didn't like the category, decided he had to go all-in. Unfortunately for Adam, he missed, leaving Ryan with a big runaway into FJ at $15,800 vs. $2,000 for Adam, while Emily finished in the red at -$400.
Final Jeopardy!
19th CENTURY NAMES - Shrunken auditory nerves were seen in his autopsy after his 1827 death in Vienna
Both players were correct on FJ, as Ryan chose to respond this time despite betting $0. Ryan's $15,800 win brings him to a four-day total of $83,179.
Final scores: Ryan $15,800, Adam $2,000, Emily -$400.
Triple Stumper of the day: In BEASTLY RHYME TIME, no one knew a "plastered polecat" is a drunk skunk.
Wagering strategy: Since Adam said he didn't like the DD3 category, he was close enough to Ryan and there were enough clues left to make a $5 wager an option. If he had done that and the game played out the same way, he would have been within half of Ryan's score going into FJ.
Clue selection strategy: With DD3 still on the board and three untouched categories remaining in DJ, Ryan elected to select three clues from the category where DD2 had already been found.
Correct Qs: DD1 - What is centrifuge? DD2 - What are the Canary Islands? DD3 - What is Jacob's ladder? FJ - Who was Ludwig van Beethoven?
