- Maddie Carwile, a healthcare program coordinator from New York City. Maddie is a one-day champ with winnings of $11,700.
Jeopardy!
O CANADA PROVINCE CAPITAL // DYING ON TV // WILD LINES // NICKNAMES // ALL BETS // R OFF
DD1 - $1,000 - NICKNAMES - New Orleans is also called this city because of its placement on a sharp bend of the Mississippi River (Kate added $2,200.)
Scores at first break: Maddie $2,800, Marianne $1,000, Kate $2,800.
Scores entering DJ: Maddie $5,200, Marianne $600, Kate $5,600.
Double Jeopardy!
AMERICAN AUTHORS // CAMEOS // THE NATURAL WORLD // LANGUAGES // IT'S A CRISIS! // WORDS THAT SHOULD RHYME
DD2 - $1,200 - LANGUAGES - This ancient Middle Eastern region of Fars is the birthplace of this country's official language (Maddie added $3,000 to her score of $6,000 vs. $7,200 for Kate.)
DD3 - $1,200 - CAMEOS - Ming-Na Wen voiced the title character in this 1998 film & made a cameo in the 2020 live-action remake (Kate added $7,000 to her total of $12,400 vs. $18,600 for Maddie. This was a spot to bet nearly everything to nail down the lead into FJ if correct.)
Kate found DD3 very late in DJ from second position, bet enough to take a slight lead, but not enough to hold it, as Maddie came back with a high-value response to regain first place into FJ at $20,600 vs. $20,200 for Kate and $5,400 for Marianne.
Final Jeopardy!
LANDMARKS - At its dedication, Sen. John Sherman said, “Simple in form…it rises into the skies higher than any other work of human art”
Kate and Marianne were correct on FJ, with Kate adding $8,000 to win with $28,200.
Final scores: Maddie $600, Marianne $10,400, Kate $28,200.
Clue selection strategy: Late in both rounds with a DD still on the board, the contestants selected low-value clues rather than going right to the few remaining spots where the DDs were most likely located.
Gambling gaffes: They players missed several clues in ALL BETS, including one looking for the four-letter term for a horse race wager that pays off with a first, second or third-place finish, a "show" bet.
Correct Qs: DD1 - What is Crescent City? DD2 - What is Iran? DD3 - What is "Mulan"? FJ - What is the Washington Monument?
