I wanted to make Julia Childs' potato salad or my classic black bean, corn, jicama, etc. salad with homemade lime vinaigrette. But no. I was told that I am bringing my hummus to the 4th of July celebration. I'm waiting for the wackiest American flag overall shorts I'm painting my fingernails red, white and blue. I have a designer parasol - Michael Calloway! - and it features an American flag among it's many layers of tulle and found fabrics.
I knew that I would go over the top this year. I did not expect to have such an immediate reason too celebrate independence. It's quite possible that we will not be independent next year.
