Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Jul. 25

 Here are today's contestants:

- Phil Gatton, an IT portfolio director & musician from Louisville, Kentucky;

- Krista Boyd, a legislative fiscal analyst from Saint Paul, Minnesota; and

- Davey Morrison, an actor & screenwriter originally from Provo, Utah. Davey is a one-day champ with winnings of $15,500.

Jeopardy!

FACTS ABOUT WORLD WAR I // THEY COME IN PAIRS // WORDS IN A DICKENS TITLE // PUTTING THE "T" IN TV // SCIENCE: MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH // ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS

DD1 - $600 - WORDS IN A DICKENS TITLE - Type of fund that invests in diversified securities (Davey lost $1,000.)

Scores at first break: Davey $2,400, Krista $200, Phil -$800.

Scores entering DJ: Davey $2,200, Krista $1,600, Phil -$800.

Double Jeopardy!

AMERICAN RIVERS // LITERARY HATERADE // ANAGRAMMED ADJECTIVES // RECENTLY ON BILLBOARD'S HOT 100 // I'M GIVING A PARTY // BY INVITATION ONLY

DD2 - $1,200 - AMERICAN RIVERS - The Gila River makes its way from New Mexico to Arizona, meeting this other river at Yuma (On the first clue of the round, Phil added $2,000.)

DD3 - $1,200 - RECENTLY ON BILLBOARD'S HOT 100 - Luke Combs was "kissin' on a blonde in a backyard pool" & let the wild rumpus start with this song, also a kids' book title (Krista added $2,000.)

Everyone had a tough first round, and Davey was the only player to get rolling in DJ, heading into FJ with a runaway at $13,000 vs. $2,000 for Phil and $1,200 for Krista.

Final Jeopardy!

FAMOUS WOMEN - Adding to her nickname, one legend claimed that earlier in life, she was saved from drowning by family friend Mark Twain

Davey and Krista were correct on FJ, with Davey adding $512 to win with $13,512 for a two-day total of $29,012.

Final scores: Davey $13,000, Krista $1,200, Phil $2,000.

Triple Stumper of the day: In WORDS IN A DICKENS TITLE, the host mocked Phil's response of "sprain" for the clue "to wrench an ankle" (twist).

Judging the writers: I understand the show wants to feel hip and contemporary, but back in the day, I don't recall them having categories about the recent works of the Grass Roots or the 1910 Fruitgum Co.

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is mutual? DD2 - What is the Colorado? DD3 - What is "Where the Wild Things Are"? FJ - Who was (The Unsinkable) Molly Brown?
