Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Jul. 22

 Here are today's contestants:

- Monica Anderson, a master control operator from Sterling, Virginia;

- Sean Duffie, a Spanish & civics teacher from Kentwood, Michigan; and

- Neilesh Vinjamuri, a software engineer from Lionville, Pennsylvania. Neilesh is a one-day champ with winnings of $12,000.

Jeopardy!

SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERIES // STARS WE LOST LAST YEAR // ALL APOLOGIES // STATE HOLIDAYS // MOUTH TO MOUTH // CLASSIC POEMS' ENDINGS

DD1 - $1,000 - CLASSIC POEMS' ENDINGS - "Noble six hundred!" (On the last clue of the round, Neilesh added $1,000 to his leading score of $8,000.)

Scores at first break: Neilesh $5,000, Sean $1,200, Monica $400.

Scores entering DJ: Neilesh $9,000, Sean $3,600, Monica $2,000.

Double Jeopardy!

THAT'S AN EXECUTIVE ORDER // THE II // SONGS FROM THE MOVIE SOUNDTRACK // FOOD HISTORY // WORLD CITIES // 3 "O"s

DD2 - $1,200 - WORLD CITIES - It's France's oldest city & its main seaport (Neilesh added $3,000 to his total of $10,600 vs. $5,600 for Sean.)

DD3 - $1,600 - THAT'S AN EXECUTIVE ORDER - Martin Van Buren's first order, March 7, 1837, commanded the surgeon general to accompany this ailing man headed home to Tennessee (Neilesh, with a comfortable lead, improved by $2,500 to $26,100.)

Unlike on Friday's show, Neilesh got off to a very fast start here, was correct on all three DDs and had another runaway at $26,100 vs. $7,600 for Monica and $5,200 for Sean.

Final Jeopardy!

AUTHORS - “Love” is within the titles of 3 of his most famous books; a fourth, “The Rainbow”, calls love “the flower of life”

Only Neilesh was correct on FJ, adding $3,000 to win with $29,100 for a two-day total of $41,100.

Final scores: Neilesh $29,100, Sean $2,799, Monica $2,600.

That's before their time: No one knew the classic 1972 Curtis Mayfield movie soundtrack was for "Superfly", or the performer who made a big comeback in the mid-80s, including a duet with Bryan Adams on "It's Only Love" was Tina Turner.

Clue selection strategy: DD hunting was very weak in this game. Not only did DD1 remain on the board until the very end, but in DJ the players continued to select from the category where DD2 was already found, and played top-down in two untouched categories with DD3 remaining.

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is "Charge of the Light Brigade"? DD2 - What is Marseille? DD3 - Who was Andrew Jackson? FJ - Who was D.H. Lawrence?
