Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Jun. 6

 Here are today's contestants:

- Shira Gluck, a rabbi from Jersey City, New Jersey;

- Benjamin Nelson, a theater producer originally from Sturgis, South Dakota; and

- Adriana Harmeyer, an archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana. Adriana is a six-day champ with winnings of $136,100.

Jeopardy!

HISTORIC TELEGRAMS // I GOT A BEEF WITH YOU // PLAYING WITH MOVIE DOLLS // TRAVEL & TOURISM // ONE LETTER SAYS IT ALL // ANIMAL PLANET

DD1 - $800 - HISTORIC TELEGRAMS - Him to president Truman in 1950: "The State Department harbors a nest of Communists and Communist sympathizers" (Shira dropped $600 from her score of $800.)

Scores at first break: Adriana $1,000, Benjamin $1,200, Shira $1,200.

Scores entering DJ: Adriana $4,800, Benjamin $2,400, Shira $3,000.

Double Jeopardy!

4-LETTER WORLD CITIES // HARD STUFF // WOMEN IN THE BIBLE // MUSIC OF THE '60S // LITERARY TERMS // DOUBLE "R" WORDS

DD2 - $1,600 - 4-LETTER WORLD CITIES - Golda Meir & the dancer Nijinsky were both born in this city when it was still part of Russia (On the first clue of DJ, Benjamin doubled to $4,800 to tie Adrianna for the lead.)

DD3 - $2,000 - LITERARY TERMS - Not always marked by 3 dots, it's the omission of words that are understood in context (Shira lost $2,500 from her total of $11,400 vs. $16,800 for Adriana.)

Once again Adriana managed to avoid the DDs, and once again it didn't matter, as Shira missed DD3, helping Adriana to another runaway at $18,800 vs. $8,900 for Shira and $8,000 for Benjamin.

Final Jeopardy!

U.S. HISTORY - Challenged in a courtroom that same year, 1925's Butler Act in Tennessee outlawed this activity and wasn't repealed until 1967

Only Adriana was correct on FJ, adding $800 to win with $19,600 for a seven-day total of $155,700.

Final scores: Adriana $19,600, Benjamin $7,099, Shira $6,000.

Literary liabilities: No one knew a poem lamenting a death is an elegy, or an an indirect or implied reference from the Latin for "play on words" is allusion. Note that the allusion clue was in the top row, despite being arguably the toughest one in the category.

Ken's Korner: After Shira's response to FJ was revealed, Ken brought back memories of Mayim by saying, "Unfortunately, that's not correct".

Correct Qs: DD1 - Who was McCarthy? DD2 - What is Kiev? DD3 - What is ellipsis? FJ -What is the teaching of evolution?
