Jeopardy! recap for Wed., May 22

 Here are today's contestants:

- Amar Kakirde, a graduate student from Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey;

- Ellen Klages, a writer from San Francisco, California; and

- Chris D'Amico, a verifications specialist from Lakewood, Ohio. Chris is a one-day champ with winnings of $25,100.

Jeopardy!

PUERTO RICANS // THE DRAMA OF TELEVISION // IN THE WEEDS //ENDS IN "ITE" // ROCK ME // AMADEUS

DD1 - $1,000 - ROCK ME - This sacred shrine in Jerusalem covers the spot from which Muhammad is said to have ascended to heaven (Chris bet just $200 from his leading score of 5,800 and missed.)

Scores at first break: Chris $2,800, Ellen $600, Amar $2,400.

Scores entering DJ: Chris $6,800, Ellen -$400, Amar $4,800.

Double Jeopardy!

IT'S ALREADY IN THE FORM OF A QUESTION! // TREATIES // MEDICAL CROSSWORD CLUES // BEGINS WITH A SILENT LETTER // BOOKS FROM THE LAST FEW YEARS // FICTIONAL MOVIE SPORTS TEAMS

DD2 - $1,200 - TREATIES - France restored this tiny principality's independence in an 1861 treaty & a customs union was established 4 years later (Amar improved by $4,000 to $10,000 vs. $7,200 for Chris.)

DD3 - $1,600 - IT'S ALREADY IN THE FORM OF A QUESTION! - In a relatively famous play, this 4-word question precedes "Deny thy father & refuse thy name" (Chris wagered $6,000 from his total of $10,400 vs. $14,400 for Amar and missed.)

Amar took first place from Chris on DD2, then Chris tried to return the favor on DD3 but missed. After the last commercial break, a ruling reversal cost Chris $4,000 and turned a live game into a runaway, with Amar leading into FJ at $15,600 vs. $6,800 for Chris and $2,000 for Ellen.

Final Jeopardy!

COUNTRIES' LANGUAGES - About 70% of its people can speak Portuguese, about 20% can speak Umbundu, 8% Kikongo & 8% Kimbundu

Only Amar was correct on FJ, adding $1,000 to win with $16,600.

Final scores: Chris $4,800, Ellen $1,930, Amar $16,600.

TV troubles: No one knew the murder drama with characters Madeline Martha MacKenzie & Bonnie Carlson based on a bestseller ("Big Little Lies") or the former smash hit with Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson as Cookie ("Empire").

Judging the writers: In DD3, they make a reference to "Romeo and Juliet" as being "a relatively famous play", so it's up to the players to figure out when the writers are being sarcastic.

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is Dome of the Rock? DD2 - What is Monaco? DD3 - "Wherefore art thou Romeo?" FJ -What is Angola?
