Jeopardy! recap for Thur., May 16

 Here are today's contestants:

- Elizabeth Brzozowski, a social studies teacher from Fishkill, New York;

- Chen Yan, a surgeon from Happy Valley, Oregon; and

- Grant DeYoung, a grocery clerk from Prescott, Arizona. Grant is a one-day champ with winnings of $25,601.

Jeopardy!

YO ABBA ABBA! // ANAGRAMMED AUTHORS // MEET ME IN THE MIDDLE // CLOSE STATES IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION // HERE BE MONSTERS // NOT AN ADVERB, BUT ENDS WITH "-LY"

DD1 - $800 - NOT AN ADVERB, BUT ENDS WITH "-LY" - The Greek for "irregular" gives us this word for a scientific observation that differs from expectations (Grant lost $4,000 on a true DD.)

Scores at first break: Grant $3,600, Chen $1,800, Elizabeth $2,000.

Scores entering DJ: Grant $3,000, Chen $2,800, Elizabeth $3,600.

Double Jeopardy!

COUNTRIES WITH ONE THING IN COMMON (all seven letters) // APPROXIMATE WEIGHTS & MEASURES // TV "Q"  // THE WILD WEST // SCIENCE EXPERIEMENTS // ADD A LETTER

DD2 - $1,600 - THE WILD WEST - Buffalo Bill & Billy the Kid were among those who used this company's model 1873, the "gun that won the West" (Grant added $5,000 to improve to $11,600 vs. $6,400 for Chen.)

DD3 - $2,000 - COUNTRIES WITH ONE THING IN COMMON (seven letters) - It's the country that surrounds the Gambia (Grant added $6,000 to $18,000 vs. $6,400 for Will.)

Grant scored on both DDs in DJ and wagered enough on them to maintain a runaway into FJ at $20,800 vs. $9,600 for Chen and $2,400 for Elizabeth.

Final Jeopardy!

THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY - Before entering history, this man visited the grave of Bogdan Zerajic, who had died just a few years earlier

Only Grant was correct on FJ, but he bet $0 to win with $20,800 for a two-day total of $46,401.

Final scores: Grant $20,800, Chen $9,600, Elizabeth $0.

That's before their time: Even after being given star Jack Klugman and the first letter "Q", the players didn't know the long-running series from the past "Quincy, M.E."

Judging the producers: Another anagram category where after the clue disappears, the home audience can't see the anagram letters on screen. I don't know how the producers don't realize how frustrating this is for viewers trying to play along.

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is anomaly? DD2 - What is Winchester? DD3 - What is Senegal? FJ - Who was Gavrilo Princip?
