Politics Corner March 26

photo mine (beware of Harlan)

Day at sea and no excursions to Sao Tome and Principe are available tomorrow so it's a good time for me to feel sick. We might take a private trip which would be nice because I could stay in the air conditioned car if I needed to. We are right around the equator now. I don't think that the weather can be worse than Angola. Temps were in the 90s but with so much humidity it felt well into the hundreds. Sao Tome is another place in west Africa with a history of slavery. South Africa had it's own home grown slavery and it seems that from Angola all the way up to Morocco was under slavery's curse. It's no wonder that white people - particularly Americans - don't seem to visit here. Almost all of the Americans that I've met on the ship are black.

If there is one world leader out there that is crazier than Trump it's <s>Putin</s> Netanyahu. The US has been warning him for months that he reconsider ceasefire and humanitarian aid. Instead he tried to back the US into a corner and succeeded in angering just about everyone in Israel. The calls for his resignation from the left were expected but even the right has turned against him now. Them next step for the US is likely to accurately accuse of breaking the agreement to not use weapons bought from the US to prevent humanitarian aid.  He seems to be the only person in Israel who thinks they have a chance of surviving without the US.  [Guardian]

Keeping his red cap in the crazy contest, Trump is attacking yet another judge (the hush money case - this could lead to prison) and the judge's daughter. I would imagine that most judges have fairly thick skin when it comes to personal attacks but Donny should know better than to go after someone else's daughter considering all that is said about Ivanka (much of it true). Wannabe world leader but actual big baby who wants you to know that he only uses ketamine "when he needs to" got his ass tossed out of court. He had been suing a small group that tracks hate speech on social media. The judge had already made his displeasure known during pretrial. This time he didn't just rip Xitter to shreds, he disallowed them to refile, noting that the motive of Xitter was not to preserve ;proprietary data and to stomp out, not preserve free speech. Xitter claims that they will appeal but this sounds like a Drumpf move. Stall, delay, and hopefully bankrupt the opposition. Since Xitter cannot refile this means that they have to appeal on the ruling. I can't imagine an appeals court in California is going to find any merit in appeal. [CNN]
