Politics Corner February 16th

If you don't know about the two big news stories today (Trump now owes more money in lawsuits than he has and can no longer do business in NY state; and Putin assassinated Navalny), check out or Headline thread or basically any news source on the planet.

In other Trump news, it looks like the persecution of Fani Willis is near the end. I still don't understand why any of this could possible excuse Trump and all the others criminally charged with attempting to steal the Electors of the state of Georgia in the 2020 election. If this doesn't infuriate you then you haven't thought it through. I don't care who you voted for but you vote should count like anyone else's. By stealing GA (and attempting in Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and others) they were stealing the votes of every American and destroying our democracy. [Atlanta Journal-Constitution]

Israel is still planning a land operation as well as continued bombing of Gaza. Rafah, which is not safe, is the safest place in Gaza. Israel is telling Gazans to evacuate Rafah. Egypt is building a wall. Where are Gazans supposed to go? To die against the wall or take their luck on the battlefield? [Associated Press]

Bad day for Trump? Also a bad day for Texas AG Ken Paxton. His trial is moving forward. Maybe. Finally. His fraud case has been delayed for 8 years. An impeachment attempt on him failed. If convicted he could be looking at 99 years in jail. I'm guessing there will be another delay and he'll be in office until he dies. [Associated Press}

There will be LGBTQetc. questions on the household census this year. This is kind of a mini-census that we take every so often and is not the big census that is required by the Constitution every ten years. This is the first time that these questions have been asked and they seem to be going out of their way to do it right. Different household members can give different answers without the others knowing. The questions cover gender and sexual orientation. [Associated Press]
