Sometimes we drive to Chilcoot, CA just for a sandwich.
There's a general store with a deli, and they have the best pastrami around.
At other places I tend to go for the Italian, or similar. One of my favorites though was the Hawaiian from Yellow Sub. It was like the pizza, but a sub. Sadly, they didn't survive the 2020 lockdowns.
Hubby just loves Port of Subs, which, for those of you who aren't familiar, is like Subway but better. You just don't always get a good meat to bread ratio as you do at the more local level, but he can get all the onion he wants.
