Politics Corner December 12

Biden and Netanyahu are beginning to drift apart. The vote in the UN General Assembly was non-binding unlike the US veto in the Security Council but the White House has taken notice that we stand mostly alone with Israel while the rest of the world is counting the death toll. Biden has gotten some concessions toward peace from Israel but for the most part we are waiting for proof that aid is getting into Gaza for the general population. The Israeli government has also finally figured out that they need to play the publicity game. If disease runs rampant through Gaza and people die from health reasons as well as bombs then they will run out of any diplomatic good will.

Oh yeah, Hamas is still the worst.  [The Times of Israel]

While Israel rains US bombs down on Gaza, Ukraine's Zelenskyy has to come to DC on bended knee for aid to keep Russia from recreating the Soviet Union. Republicans loved the cold war and are itching for another. [Associated Press]

The State of New York will be redistricted between now and the 2024 election. Either it will be a fair map or it will be gerrymandered in Democrats favor. Either way, Santos former district will revert to Democrat. This will lead to a stronger Dem majority in Albany and may tilt the US House to the left. [Associated Press]
