What's On Tonight (Sunday): All about that Bass

Lawmen: Bass Reeves

Remember, remember! Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, November 5!

Our Top Pick tonight is the premiere of Lawmen: Bass Reeves (Paramount+, 3 a.m.). This new Western miniseries is from the man never short of ideas (and always recycling his tropes) Taylor Sheridan and judging from the weird title, it set up for a franchise. Bass Reeves was indeed a real person; a former slave who became the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi and possible inspiration for The Lone Ranger. However, he is not portrayed by David Ramsey or Delroy Lindo. Instead we have David Oyelowo. In the finale, Wyatt Earp appears and tells Reeves "I'm putting together a team."

Elsewhere, The Simpsons are an NFT in a Treehouse of Horror, Nat Geo revisits the Day of JFK's assassination, 60 Minutes visit monkeys, Jimmy Pesto is back, Gilded Age swipes right, Trivial Pursuit built America, Andy Cohen goes to BravoCon, and those who Fear see ghosts.

(All times are Eastern. All listings are new unless otherwise stated. For more listings, visit The Futon Critic or Zap2it.)

EARLY STREAMING & EVENING

60 Minutes (CBS, 7 p.m. / Paramount+, Monday): John Eastman, the former law professor who gave controversial legal advice to former President Donald Trump... Social Security Administration errors... Monkey Island, off the coast of Puerto Rico, is home to roughly 1,800 monkeys... the Israel-Hamas war.

πŸ“Ί The John Larroquette Show (Rewind TV, 6 p.m.): John quits his post as Karl's (Ted McGinley) campaign manager and enters the state Senate race himself.

⭐ Lawmen: Bass Reeves (TaylorSheridan+ Paramount+, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. "About the legendary lawman Bass Reeves (David Oyelowo), one of the greatest frontier heroes and one of the first Black deputy U.S. marshals west of the Mississippi River in American history." This is a 2 episode premiere. The cast includes Dennis Quaid, Barry Pepper, Donald Sutherland, and Garrett Hedlund. Also, it's from Taylor Sheridan. Because... Paramount.✔️

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ We're Scrooged (UPtv, 7 p.m.): "Sarah and Scott, high school sweethearts, parted ways after college. They return to their hometown to attend their 10-year high school reunion. Three ghosts will visit them over the next three nights, showing them what they gave up." I hate this.

πŸŽ₯ Obsessed to Death (Lifetime): "Cassie becomes obsessed with the woman who stole her man away from her." Somehow, this leads to death, I suppose.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ Our Christmas Wedding (Great American Family): Christina Wreath has chosen to be with Craig Klaus. She let's down her old sidepiece, John Fezziwig, gently since she's confident he's been catching feelings for her. She isn't sure she has feelings for him. With the War of the Third Noel now raging in the west, Craig gets called to the front quicker than expected. Soldiers are needed as the Koal Federation military is pummeling everything in its path. Only a few weeks into their relationship and they'll be separated -- and Craig might not come back. As a deep romantic, Craig wants to get married before he leaves. Christina hesitantly says okay. This quick, barebones ceremony with a few friends isn't what Christina dreamed of nor is she fully sure she even loves Craig. Her friends tell her she's doing what is right and needed. Wartime and all that. After Craig goes to the front, Christina learns John is still in town, working the black market and avoiding the draft.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ The Santa Summit (Hallmark Channel): In this diplomatic drama, the drama and discussions of what to do at the end of the War of the Third Noel occur. The royal family's nanny told everybody all their dirty laundry, and parliament didn't hesitate to finally dismantle the monarchy. But how do you decide governmental structure without the monarchy? The Santa Summit was called, a month-long gathering of politicians, civic leaders, and activists at the Candii Castle on the estate of the illustrious Santa family. While the monarchy was largely just a figurehead by the time it was dismantled, it was also time for the country to confront grievances from some of the native beings, like punxsutawnis, nisses, and brownies, who said they lacked a real voice in government because of how the Constitution was written. While elves are the majority (and not native to the continent), there will be plenty of pushback against reenforcing rules that give them an edge up. Leading the summit is the long-time senator Neclaus Santa, of the House of Santa. Given that he is part a deep-rooted legacy family yet married a pixie, he was trusted by many to be fair. He knows a new balance must be struck because it can mean more outlying republics would join Christmasia.

The Simpsons (Fox / Hulu, Monday): Treehouse alert! Bart is turned into an NFT, so Marge fights through the blockchain to rescue her son. Meanwhile, Lisa turns to a murderer from her past to find a serial killer.
