Happy Thanksgiving to all US WOTers!
A village in BC is putting Republican House dysfunction to shame, featuring mass staff resignations, shouting matches, and threats to have people arrested. The mayor recently lost a vote (he actually loses a lot of votes, having only one ally on council) to have taxpayer funds spent to try and out a "mole" who has been publishing letters critical of his administration (CBC)
Doug Ford is looking to upend the alcohol sales model in Ontario by ending The Beer Store and LCBO monopolies and allowing more retailers to sell wine, spirits, and beer. (CBC) While this may make alcohol more widely available, he is probably not going to address the problem of excessive price markups caused by excise and sales taxes. The Toronto Star reported back in July that several grocery stores in the GTA were quietly phasing out beer and wine sales because they weren't making enough money. (Toronto Star Incognito Mode)
Meta is currently blocking news on its platforms in Canada as part of a dispute over legislation that is intended to force them to share ad revenue with the news content providers. One of the unintended victims of this is a popular shortbread recipe that was published in 2012 on the CBC Kelowna Facebook feed (CBC)
Political discussion welcome.
