What's On Tonight (Tuesday): School days go Black and white

The Harvest

Hello, Snips! Here's what's on television for tonight, Tuesday, September 12!

Our Top Pick tonight is American Experience presentation of The Harvest: Integrating Mississippi's Schools (PBS, 9 p.m.). The documentary tells the story of Leland, Mississippi's first integrated class from 1st grade to high school graduation in 1982, which included the doc's filmmaker (and author) Douglas A. Blackmon. It also explores how society failed to finish the job of integration. (American Experience will return in late October with War on Disco. Pump that one directly into my veins.)

Elsewhere, The Swarm looks like a cousin to Zoo (*shouts* ZOO!!!), an icon visits the BuildingAhsoka is in the World Between Worlds, Michelle Wolf has new specials, the MTV Video Music Awards are still a thing, the Dark Side is finished, Shazam gets a final Beating, and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are back in Wrexham.

(All times are Eastern. All listings are new unless otherwise stated. For more listings, visit The Futon Critic or Zap2it.)

STREAMING & EARLY EVENING

Only Murders in the Building (Hulu, midnight): Charles finds an unexpected source for a major clue. A Broadway icon comes knocking at Oliver's door -- Bernadette Peters! Patti LuPone! Sutton Foster! Bradley Cooper as Leonard Bernstein! Sam Rockwell as Bob Fosse! "Mabel forms an alternate trio to pursue a lead that sheds light on Ben's bro and CoBro history." Damn Mabel. Now I'm sad.

Michelle Wolf: It's Great to Be Here (Netflix, 3 a.m.): COMPLETE SERIES. She couldn't do a singlular special. Instead she does one in 3 parts. "The comic riffs on dating, sexual harassment, race relations, and living in a new country, all while keeping her signature fiery wit." ✔️

⭐πŸŽ₯ The Harvest: Integrating Mississippi's Schools (American Experience) (PBS): "Pulitzer Prize-winning author Douglas A. Blackmon looks back at how school integration transformed his hometown of Leland, Mississippi. After the 1954 Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional, little more than token efforts were made to desegregate Southern schools. That changed dramatically on October 29, 1969, when the high court ordered that Mississippi schools to fully — and immediately — desegregate. As a result, a group of children, including six-year-old Blackmon, became part of the first class of Black and white children who would attend all 12 grades together in Leland." Trailer. Opening chapter.
