What's On Tonight (Monday): '80s nostalgia with a Canadian Critch

Son of a Critch

I'd like to solve the puzzle! Here's what's on television for tonight, Monday, September 11!

Our Top Pick tonight is Son of a Critch (The CW, 8 p.m. / The CW App, Tuesday). The Canadian semi-autobiographical comedy's '80s setup is something we've seen before (The Goldbergs, Everybody Hates Chris), but this time it's set in Newfoundland where Mark Critch (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) begins
junior high. He makes friends with Ritche, the only person of color at the school, and is bullied by a girl (Sophia Powers), who comes from a long line of bullies but secretly has a crush on him — and no other girl can have him. The real Mark Critch narrates the show and portrays the dad, Mike. The rest of the family is comprised of mom Mary, brother Mark Jr., and grandpa Pop, performed by the accomplished Malcolm McDowell. I really like the show. (Maybe a white Everybody Hates Chris... or The Goldbergs without the pop culture.)

Elsewhere, Boston didn't like being integrated, Futurama gets canceled, Children Ruin sleeping, syndicated game shows are back in action, Halloween Baking is in the oven, the Burbs need catering, sportsballs are back, and Breeders travel to meet a new baby.
