I'm A Virgo

It's a pretty thin week.  I'm A Virgo is the only thing that really stands out, and not just because its protagonist is thirteen feet tall.  I was kind of surprised, after reading the series description below, that this series isn't animated.  Looks like there is a ton of forced perspective, which is preferable to using CGI to embiggen.  I'm not sure if I'll actually check it out, but I'm more likely to watch it than anything else premiering today.

⭐🔔 I'm A Virgo✔️ (Amazon, 12:01 AM) SEASON ONE. 'A darkly comedic fantastical coming-of-age joyride about Cootie, a 13-foot-tall young Black man in Oakland, California. Having grown up hidden away, passing time on a diet of comic books and TV shows, he escapes to experience the beauty and contradictions of the real world. He forms friendships, finds love, navigates awkward situations, and encounters his idol, the real-life superhero named The Hero.'

Elsewhere...

*Well, that's not entirely true.  I could see myself checking out iNumber Number: Jozie's Gold.  It's a 10-year-later sequel to iNumber Number (it was retitled Avenged in the US for some reason), which also spawned a Showtime series of the same name back in 2017.  It looks pretty fun.

*You know what's not fun for me?  Evil Dead Rise.  I'm just not a horror guy and watching the trailer for this thing hammered that home.  I love Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, but those were weird, goofy, self-aware films that were anchored by Bruce Campbell.  Evil Dead Rise just looks like torture porn with children to me.  It might be good, but I'd never be able to bring myself to watch it.  

*I haven't watched this week's Strange New Worlds yet, but I wasn't big on the season premiere.  SPOILERS FOR THE PREMIERE AHEAD: 

1. First and foremost, it suffered from a severe lack of Pike.  Anson Mount is the Lebowski rug of this series.  

2. Spock's decision to steal the Enterprise seemed a bit out of character even with his emotional instability.  I could believe older Spock doing that, but young Spock just doesn't seem the type.  In fact, I would say most of his behavior in this episode comes off as odd.  

3.  I love Nurse Chapel, but they need to take her being a badass down a notch.  I am already having a hard time reconciling the Spock/Chapel relationship here with the one in the original series, and now I have to reconcile that we never saw TOS Chapel attempt an Old Boy-style hallway fight.  

Speaking of which, pretty sure that was the first Old Boy-style hallway fight we've ever gotten in Star Trek.
