There was low turnout for NYC primary elections everywhere but Harlem where exonerated Central Park Five member Yusef Salaam was elected to the City Council with a landslide win over two established candidates by over half the vote and avoiding a runoff. Years after DNA tests had proven their innocence and they had been released from prison, Donald Trump was still calling for their execution. When Donald Trump was arrested, Salaam had a full page ad ready to run that matched the one that Trump ran to call for his death. I thing that Salaam was far too nice. [CBS] [Independent]

As fast as Republican legislatures pass scary teen trans laws, concerned parents file lawsuits on behalf of their trans kids, and Federal judges from both sides of the aisle rule that the bans are likely unconstitutional and hold them or send them back, or they simply find that the bans are unconstitutional on their face. Trump is counter-suing E. Jean Carroll for defamation for saying that he raped her. Of course he's doing this to delay payment. But it seems unwise in that will open new findings into rape and he could easy wind up with rape hung around his neck. [CNN]

A huge chunk of the US is under air quality alerts because a huge chunk of Canada is on fire. I can only imagine what it's like in Canada because I'm looking at US media ("Blame Canada!") and they're claiming that Chicago has the worst air quality in the world. I know better. Milwaukee's air is significantly worse. This still isn't the worst AQ in the US - western wildfires are responsible for that. [NBC]
