What's On Tonight (Friday): My Little Ass-Kicking Unicorn...

Unicorn: Warriors Eternal

It's always nice when the Top Pick is obvious to me even if it is not necessarily obvious to anyone else.  I love Genndy Tartakovsky's work.  His last series, Primal, was two seasons of brutal adventuring where actions spoke louder than words; and what few words it contained were hard to understand because they weren't in English (monolingual jackass that I am).  I'll be checking this one out as soon as I can (doesn't look like it's coming to HBO Max yet).

Top Pick

🦄 Unicorn: Warriors Eternal (Adult Swim, 12:00 AM) SERIES PREMIERE. 'A supernatural animated-action series from five-time Emmy Award-winner Genndy Tartakovsky that follows a team of heroes who reawaken to fight an ominous force throughout eternity. When the reawakening of our heroes manifests in the bodies of new unsuspecting hosts, they must find a way to protect the world against the prevailing darkness.'

Elsewhere...

*Some years ago, I read a little sci-fi trilogy that I primarily purchased because it was cheap (something like $0.99 each).  I read all three books, thought they were okay, and kind of forgot about them.  I always assumed no one else ever heard of it.  Color me surprised that not only did people read those books, but they were also actually popular enough to spawn an Apple series, Silo.  I don't remember everything about the trilogy, but it looks like the series is either mashing some things together or jumping around a bit in the timeline.  Regardless, it stars Rebecca Ferguson (please let her have a cool hat!) and Tim Robbins (in the senior actor gravitas role these things always demand) and that's got to be enough to at least check it out.

*Roku has revamped The Great American Baking Show and brought Pru Leith across the pond (along with returning Paul Hollywood) to make it legit.  I never watched the original American version, but this one seems to do a good job of aping the original, down to ridiculous non-baking challenges like making hamburgers (why does this show refuse to focus exclusively on baking?).  The one thing that has really piqued my interest is the two hosts: Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry, both of whom seem like a step up from Noel Fielder and Matt Lucas.

*Just an FYI: God's Time, a new movie on Paramount, is not a Christian movie.  It's a movie about two addicts trying to stop another addict they are in love with before she kills her boyfriend.  If the film ended with the love interest/would-be killer getting her father drunk so she could have sex with him, then it would be a Christian movie.  And a pretty great one too!

*Tubi is premiering a new action film today, Hunting Games.  The trailer is one of the worst trailers I have ever seen, and I'm pretty sure it accurately represents the quality of the film.  It's the kind of thing where you feel sorry for everyone involved.  The only way to properly watch something like this is with the silhouettes of two robots and a person in the bottom right corner of the screen.
