Women's lives are being put at risk because doctors and health systems don't know how to interpret state laws. Someone is going to die and soon and their blood will be on the Supreme Court's hands (and those who put them there). Doctors and health systems have been informed that if they want to keep Medicaid and other federal funding then they must perform abortion if the life of the woman is endangered.. Several states have a stricter definition which is leaving women carrying a lifeless fetus inside of them waiting in parking lots until they are sick enough for treatment. This has never been standard of care. Even the strictest of health systems (looking at you Catholic hospitals) have always known that the life of the woman is the first priority. Now doctors are being forced to choose between federal fines or the loss of their medical license and state prison time. That's the wrong kind of choice. And we haven't even gotten to how cruel it is for the women being punished just for being women. [ProPublica]
I'll still be at the opera (Barber of Seville!) when this posts. I'll try to join you later in the comments.
