Politics Corner April 24th

Tucker Carlson got fired! A-aron Rodgers got traded! Don Lemon got fired but nobody notices the black guy unless he gets arrested. We also keep hanging on the verge of fascism. Things like Trump and others trying to steal elections (see below the jump) and literal insurrection get the most attention because they are big and in your face. Or judge shopping to find a single judge willing to take away women's control over their own bodies. The reason that all of this can happen is because fascism is bubbling under. Their needs to be people to answer the call to insurrection and there are, even in California. [Guardian]

Trump operatives breached a voting machine in Georgia and considered using it to not only decertify the Georgia Presidential vote but also maintain Republican control of the Senate. All we need are some balconies and tea cups and we could be Russia. [CNN]

Florida's Surgeon General altered research and ignored data and told young men that it was dangerous to get the mRNA COVID vaccine and refused to include the pertinent point - it was far more dangerous to get COVID. Of course DeSantis appointed him. [Tampa Bay Times]

The Supreme Court made a surprising decision on states rights that actually benefits local communities over big businesses. In this case, cities are suing the oil companies for contributing to climate change. The oil companies want to move the cases to the federal level because (particularly now) they thought that they would be more likely to succeed there. The excuse was that climate change should be dealt with at the federal and international level. The Court disagreed. The biggest surprise? Alito recused himself. Thomas should take a cue from him. Thomas has ruled on cases involving his wife and at least one case involving Trammel Crow Residential that his "good friend" Harlan Crow was running, Trammel was his father and founder of the company. Incidentally, Trammel Crow was responsible for a lot of big, ugly buildings that currently sit empty in Milwaukee and across the nation. [NBC]
